The true disparity becomes apparent when you look at pass catchers, where the Panthers will finally bring a stable of weapons to the table in the wide receiver department, and the ever popular Greg Olsen once again at tight end. Any discussion of offensive firepower would not be complete without a quarterback comparison... and while Dak Prescott is one of the up and coming young quarterbacks in the NFL, he is no Cam Newton.Things could still go south quickly for the Panthers however, as we are not quite sure what we’ll get out of this patchwork offensive line we are currently rolling with. According to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network, the Panthers are expected to put offensive tackle Daryl Williams on injured reserve. The designation would sideline the All Pro tackle for at least eight weeks. The caveat withat is he has to be on the final 53 man roster at the end of the preseason to be eligible to return, so this designation likely won’t become official until the first week of September. If his health allows it, Williams will be able to start practicing with the team again after six weeks and eligible to return to the active roster for the Panthers week 9 tilt against the Buccaneers. It’s unfortunate that the Panthers will be without a key piece on their offensive line for such a significant portion of the season, but it opens the door for Taylor Moton to get experience and show what he’s got. The presence of the second year pro marks the beginning of this new thing the Panthers are trying out called offensive line depth, and it’s coming in handy now. Look for Moton to get extra reps in the preseason to get him up to speed in time for the Panthers regular season opener in just over a month.
