Scouting The 2019 NFL Draft: Week 1A Scouting Guild The start of the NFL season is right around the corner http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-isaiah-crowell-jersey , but that doesn’t mean we have to wait any longer for meaningful football. The college season is upon us. This edition will include Saturday 8/25, Thursday 8/30 and Friday 8/31. For right now, I will be prioritizing games with prospects that fit our primary needs. Those are as follows: Edge, T, RB, G, ILB and CB. Here are just a few games to check out, and who you should keep a keen scouting eye on throughout.W. Kentucky Vs Wisconsin (Fri 8/31, 9 PM EST, ESPN)Edge/Off-Ball LBer, Andrew Van Ginkel, Wisconsin (#17)Andrew is very athletic and great in space. Had over 6 sacks last year, but will need to add some weight and strength to be more effective as an edge.OT Authentic Nathan Shepherd Jersey , David Edwards, Wisconsin (#79)Edwards is one of the premier tackles coming out this year. He is strong and uses his power to plow open running lanes.OG, Beau Benzschawel, Wisconsin (#66)Has that prototypical boxy frame that will do Beau well on the interior at the next level. Will probably do better in man blocking schemes.OT/OG/C, Michael Deiter, Wisconsin (#63)There is no shortage of draft worthy linemen at Wisconsin. Deiter is a very good bookend opposite of Edwards. He can play every position along the line as well. He will probably kick inside at the next level.Off-Ball LBer, Ryan Connelly, Wisconsin (#43)Works his magic in space, and can move sideline to sideline. Ryan takes very angles and can pack some power behind his tackles. Connelly also shows some ability in coverage as well.Off-Ball LBer, T.J. Edwards, Wisconsin (#53)Edwards is the kind of LBer that will hang close to the LOS and take on blocks. He works well in tight spaces and is a cog against the run.Other Notable prospects:S, D’Cota Dixon, Wisconsin #14 - TE Youth Sam Darnold Jersey , Zander Neuville, Wisconsin #85 - TE, Kyle Penniston, Wisconsin #49 - WR, Quintez Cephus, Wisconsin #87San Diego St. Vs Stanford (Fri 8/31, 9 PM EST, FS1)OT, A.T. Hall, Stanford (#75)Hall is very smooth mover at tackle, and would look very good in our outside zone blocking scheme.RB, Bryce Love, Stanford (#20)Love is one of the best running backs coming out this year. You will be hard-pressed to find a RB with Love’s speed that is as fluid and ellusive.G http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-darron-lee-jersey , Brandon Fanaika, Stanford (#71)Brandon is short and stocky and uses his hands to perfection to win and win early. He pulls well, and would also fit our scheme.Off-Ball LBer, Bobby Okereke, Stanford (#20)Bobby takes very good angles to the ball carrier, but needs to work on shedding blockers. He is better in a clean up kind of role.CB, Alijah Holder, Stanford (#13)Alijah is a strong cover corner, who uses his physicality at the line to win. Might not be fast enough to hand with downfield weapons at the next level. Might be an option for safety.Other Notable prospects: TE, Kaden Smith, Stanford #82 - WR, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Stanford #19 Undoubtedly the most discussed issue coming out of the debacle that was the Jets’ 13-6 loss in Miami was Spencer Long’s struggles to deliver accurate snaps Bilal Powell Jersey , a task that was never designed to be a challenge to complete adequately 100% of the time.I decided to take a look back and find out just how much Long’s snapping issues hurt Sam Darnold and the offense.Long actually got off to a good start snapping the ball. His first 9 shotgun snaps were perfectly fine.On the final offensive play of the first half, Long delivered his first terrible snap, high and to the outside forcing Darnold to collect it one-handed.Darnold was able to scramble and complete an 8-yard pass just short of the sticks to Quincy Enunwa, setting up a 48-yard Jason Myers field goal entering the half.Unfortunately, that pass was the most productive one Darnold would throw when forced to gather a bad shotgun snap.In the second half, I counted 12 bad snaps by Long out of 18 shotgun plays. On Long’s 13 bad shotgun snaps in the game - whether they were high, low, left, right, or closer to Miami Beach than Darnold’s hands - Darnold completed 4 of 10 passes for 23 yards and only 1 first down, with 1 pick six and taking 3 sacks. On the rest of his passes, Darnold still threw 3 interceptions, but completed 17 of 29 passes for 206 yards and 8 first downs while taking only 1 sack.Darnold’s yards per attempt average (7.1 vs 2.3) Authentic Leonard Williams Jersey , first down rate (28% vs 10%), and sack rate (30% vs 3%) all significantly worsened on plays where he was forced to deal with an errant snap. Turnovers aside, Darnold actually produced competent numbers when throwing off of good snaps. This is not to nullify what was an awful performance from Darnold. After all, he still turned the ball over three times when the snaps were adequate. Four turnovers in a game is unacceptable from a quarterback in any circumstance - teams that turn the ball over 4+ times have won only 11% of the time since 2010. In Darnold’s case, his turnovers against Miami were mostly brutal. He was also inaccurate, indecisive, and poorly maneuvered the pocket. He royally stunk it up, and there’s no way around it.However, I found it interesting that his production did indeed take such a stark hit when he was forced to operate off of bad snaps, as perception would suggest. It’s hard to produce quality results when an exchange that is supposed to be routine becomes a chore. Time that is usually used by the quarterback for reading the field and setting his feet is instead used just to gather the ball. Oftentimes on a bad snap, up to half of the usual snap-to-throw time is evaporated before the quarterback even gains control. The Jets learned the hard way how tough it is to operate with a center delivering inauspicious snaps two-thirds of the time.
